Lionel Messi’s last gasp stunning winner for Argentina against Iran at the 2014 FIFA World Cup was not only celebrated by Argentines across the world but also one thankful punter in Las Vegas.
The high rolling punter had placed two massive bets on the Argentina game in the William Hill Sportsbook at the Tuscany Casino in Las Vegas. One bet was for $230,000 backing Argentina to win. However, the same punter then went back and placed a second identical bet for $120,000 this time.
It had appeared that the punter would be in for a huge six figure loss of $350,000 but then Messi stepped up in the dying minutes to seal a late winner and earn the punter $30,000 in profit from his two bets on an Argentina win.
Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella said "We have a genius who is called Messi and fortunately he is Argentine. Iran made life hard for us but with Messi, everything is possible."
No details are available relating to the punter that placed the staggering bets but it has been confirmed that the first bet of $230,000 was officially the highest single bet placed on the World Cup in Las Vegas.Lionel Messi’s last gasp stunning winner for Argentina against Iran at the 2014 FIFA World Cup was not only celebrated by Argentines across the world but also one thankful punter in Las Vegas.
